Our Mission
|
Life
at the Creek Cottage is a personal and informational website aimed at
individuals and families affected by disabilities and related issues.
Our
primary purpose is to share experience, strength, hope, information and
resources with the disability community.
This is a
very diverse community, made up of individuals of all ages and
abilities, encompassing both people who are considered disabled and
their friends, families and supporters. As such, the use of the site is
not restricted and does not require membership or registration.
Goals

To promote and encourage
self-determination and self-advocacy for persons with
disabilities.

To provide access to other online
resources in keeping with our Mission.

To promote the use of the computers and
the internet, online shopping, and online services as an adaptive
and assistive strategy, a means of self-empowerment and a tool for
independent living.
- To enable both the site owner and the
site itself to become fully self-supporting.

Advertising
Placement and Restrictions
The personal section of this site ("Life at the Creek
Cottage") is reserved for products and services which we actually use
(or have used). This is the only section where advertising which
implies or states personal endorsement is permitted.
The Resource Directory is primarily reserved for online
services and information that are no-cost. Some exceptions are made for
organizations with membership dues, and other fee-based services which
we consider vital to our community. This is decided on a case-by case
basis.
The shopping directory ("Shopping Shortcuts") is the
primary location for general advertising links. The directory is
categorized, and Advertiser links will be placed accordingly. We strive
to place links in all appropriate locations and
categories for multiple exposure.
Neither this Website nor its
Directories accept
advertising from or links to merchants or organizations whose primary
purpose includes sales, distribution or promotion of the following:
- Alcohol
- Tobacco products
- Ammunition and firearms
- Adult-oriented materials
- Any age-restricted materials
- Dating and personal ads
Alternatives for
Avertisers of Age-Restricted Products
We recognize that the exclusion of "adult-oriented and age
restricted"
materials may result in site
users being denied access to legitimate and lawful products. This is
not our intention. Our intention is to help protect minor children from
casual
exposure to such advertising.
As an alternative -- in order to serve verified adult members of
our community -- we may offer opt-in email circulars which feature
advertising of merchants and services deemed to be inappropriate for
general visitors.
Such opt-in circulars shall not include pornography,
materials promoting hate, violence, or illegal activities.

Termination of
Advertiser Relationship
We reserve the right to
terminate our relationship with any Advertiser at any time if the
Advertiser is found to be in violation of our guidelines.

Affiliate
Programs

We welcome commission-based
advertising. If your business or service uses pay-per-performance
advertising (such as an affiliate program), and you would like
placement on our site please contact us and direct us
to your affiliate agreement information.

Banner
and
Link
Exchange
|
|
In some instances, we do
participate in banner or link exchange agreements with sites which we
feel are compatible and appropriate with our mission and goals. This is
decided on a case-by-case basis.

Paid
Advertising
|
We strongly endorse affiliate partnerships and commission programs.
However, we do accept paid advertising from appropriate merchants and
services.
